still a beauty, tho.
Hm, coulda named him Allen Ludden…
Well at least you figured it out.
Many years back my mom took in an alley cat which she assumed was female, just on the basis of its long hair.
She took it to the vet to be spayed. They took her word about the gender and made the necessary cut… and found no female parts.
Male parts were found hidden under fur in the appropriate place, so the spay was changed to a neuter.
That poor little guy went through two operations instead of just one.
After Luke died in July 2020, I wouldn’t’ve made it this far without her. I’m addicted to felines.
Well, Carmello (née Betty White) did not turn out to be a good fit. He attacked Ernie with enough vigor to make Ernie scream in pain. I might have passed that off as over-exuberant play of a young dude, but then he went after Sylvia. She’s a little old lady and while grumpy, she is not aggressive.
So, with regret he went back to the auto shop where he came from. He’s fine there, fed and warm places to sleep, he’ll just end up dirty and with mats. It was disappointing overall, but I’m extra protective of Sylvia because she’s elderly and because she used to live with my best friend, before he died. Sylvia is a living link to Jimmy, and she was such a help to me when I was mourning. Nobody messes with Sylvia on my watch. When her time comes, it’s going to have an extra layer of sadness for me.
oh, that’s sad. it’s so hard to integrate new cats into an established group. i think you made the right choice. and it sounds like Carmello will probably be happier on his own anyway.
Yeah, he’s not even alone at the shop, there are other semi-feral cats, so he’s got a society of peers.
We’ve had a lot of cats over the years, and this is the first time an introduction has gone badly. Most of them did come as kittens though, and got fixed early.
George showed up near our place, living rough for at least a few months before getting brave enough to approach me. But, the cats had already accepted him because none of them ever reacted badly, but also he’s an extremely mellow dude. He was neutered some time in his past. I think he’s just happy to be here and doesn’t have designs on the top spot, he’s pretty deferential to the others. I’ve only seen him aggressive one time, when a feral cat tried to come in the cat door, he protected the homestead.
yeah, i think that’s key!
This is Rose:
My daughter has been asking for a dog of her own for some time now, and we’ve been waiting for her to get a little older and more responsible. With her turning 10 this year, and with Summer break coming up soon(ish), we decided this was as good of an opportunity as we were going to get. We’ll be picking her up this weekend.
Rose will be joining our two existing dogs:
Ushi(11):
Yami(1):
i’m not historically a dog person, but omg Rose is stinking CUTE!
Oh good lord. Ushi, Yami and Rose are adorable!
Are all Chinese Cresteds so photogenic? Or do you just happen to have a group of extra cute ones? Because they are wonderful, all three!
Yami is a hairless Chinese Crested. Ushi and Rose are Papillons. Ushi is black and white, and Rose is sable and white.
Their photogenicity is likely a combination of genetics, training, grooming, and photography. The pictures of Ushi and Yami are taken weekly right after their bath and grooming. My wife photographs them using a Nikon DSLR in the studio she’s set up in our basement. The images are minimally processed. The picture of Rose was taken by her breeder, likely with a phone.
We picked up Rose yesterday. She’s just had her first photo shoot today. I’ll post new pictures of all three once they’re ready.
Today’s photos:

There were ~30 good photos of Rose out of over 100, and they’ve been cropped to hide any extra subjects, like hands keeping her safe from falling.
Rose is so CUTE! I assume she’s a puppy and will grow bigger. But right now she is so adorable.
Love the beauty mark.
Rose is nearly 10 weeks old. She’s currently 2.25 lbs. (~1Kg). We expect she’ll get up to 8 or 9 lbs. (3.6-4.0 Kg) fully grown.
Lily was hanging out with a little visitor today. Just cruisin’
Baby Snek was relocated to the great outdoors, in what might have been a harrowing 45 seconds in a dustpan with a broom
Never seen a striped fuzzy snek before . . . oh
Nyla has found a new bed on my desk, right in front of me, where every time she moves she rearranges my carefully place clutter.
I am I right in thinking Nyla is a calico? I see some red among the stripes.
But clutter? Ha. None of our cats could ever fit among the junk without sliding off, followed by a pile of papers, magazines, receipts, a light bulb, some CDs, a breadboard filled with electronic components, an Arduino board, my computer glasses, a couple rolls of duct tape, etc., etc.
