The Situation in Israel/Palestine

WTH? Is Sinn Fein not a political party? What are they supposed to engage in, philately?

I just read that they are delaying prisoner releases until the Hamas prisoner ceremonies end.

Can’t say I disagree.

I read that now that they have Shiri’s body that she was “brutally murdered.”

It was bad enough to get the bodies back and know what happened to them, but all the fuckery that Hamas pulled in the exchange was … hard to imagine having any long-lasting peace with an organization that is showing such malice.

I thought this lawsuit was interesting, brought by a former hostage who was held by a reporter with ties to Hamas, saying that the reporter was illegally promoting terror by coordinating with campus groups to get stories onto US campuses. Though the suit was dismissed, I hope that there is media follow-up to this story.

Hard not to show malice towards the genociders of your people, no?

And Israel put the detainees on a bus, drove them out and turned them around. They’re both assholes. Fuck Hamas, fuck the current Israeli government. Fuck everyone who wantonly and knowingly violates human rights, I say. The families are suffering, the palestinians are suffering, they are going to destabilize the region for some shitty ideology that claims that some people are not fully human and deserves to be brutalized and have their children murdered…

But overall, Israel holds more power here and has for a very long time. They are the ones who could have been working towards a solution that allowed the Palestinian people to live in peace and dignity. Instead, they’ve spent decades now undermining any hope for peace. They don’t seem to understand that brute force will not lead to an end to conflict between their peoples, but will only continue it… which, frankly both the current government and Hamas want. They benefit from the conflict, even as their own people are brutalized. The violence visited upon the Palestinian people by the IDF only strengthen’s Hamas’ hand here, because many people see them as actually doing something, unlike PA.

If the Israeli people want peace (and I know that they do, mostly), then they have to push for a government that will help create a Palestinian state. But the current government will not ever do that. They are expanding the footprint of Israel into Gaza and the West Bank, southern Lebanon, and even into Syria. They are an expansionist state using religion to justify themselves. Until that changes, this conflict will continue and get even uglier. I wish to god it were different, but I think that’s where we are right now.

[ETA] And…

The article buries the lede somewhat, given that the announcement also has Israel making their occupation of more territory permanent, completely ignoring the UN demilitarised zone.

JFC… how can people not see how bad this is? It’s literally them rehashing the Jewish question, but at someone else!!! Fucks sake… it doesn’t have to be like this.

I liked this skeet from the thread…

He’s not wrong. There was always 2 versions of the “never again” mantra - never again ANYONE, and never again US, and those are very different ways of thinking about the problem. But as people like Naomi Klein has suggested, we’re never all going to live in peace and freedom until we think hard about the roots of all this and how the Holocaust is connected to colonialism and the rise of capitalism more generally.

So everything since has been the conventional toxic masculinity reaction to having been caught making a mistake?

Sadly, that checks out.
