I remember readving aboyt a similar idea, I think an article in Haaretz, about members of the Israeli government having a similar plan.

I sincerely hope they are not surprised. Trump/Netanyahu offered two options for Palestinians: carpet bombing or deportation.

I can understand why some people found it impossible to give their support to Biden because of his role in arming and enabling Netanyahu’s genocidal campaign in Gaza. But actively supporting Trump? It boggles the mind.

The only thing Trump will build in Gaza is the world’s largest golf course.

IIRC, there was a bit of talk by Trump pre-election about the value of all that Gaza seaside real estate.

Just because someone is an Arab America doesn’t automatically mean that they support the Palestinian cause. Lots of people are probably sick of hearing about it, and would rather just end the “problem” and give Israel whatever they want and normalize relations. See the Abraham Accords, for example. Sharing an ethnicity (or a religion or whatever) with someone doesn’t automatically mean you give a shit about them. I doubt the majority of people pissed about the war and genocide voted for Trump. They probably mostly voted for Stein or another 3rd party candidate. These were some high profile right wing Arab Americans who backed Trump, and I’m guessing none of them were of Palestinian ancestry.

It’ll be luxury housing for right wing, ultra-orthodox Israeli settlers.

Straight from Jared Kushner’s mouth, in fact.

We have a bunch of new folks here, so, in case you didn’t know, I was in Israel on 10/7. I had just taken citizenship there. Because I was not settled, I ended up coming to the US. Instead of settling in to the place I’d been dreaming of and planning to move to for 2 years, I completely restarted my life in a new place with no resources.

Before moving to Israel and during my time there, I signed up for a bunch of WhatsApp and Reddit groups so I could learn about Israel. In these groups, after the war broke out, I saw a LOT of the Telegram videos that Hamas put out. There are sites that have documented these videos. I don’t share them because

  1. they are horrific and no one should see such atrocities
  2. the families don’t want them shared and
  3. they were taken by Hamas and friends to excite people about harming and killing Israelis.

It has affected me a lot, the gruesomeness of what happened, and one of the hard parts about it is that I feel like people seeing the news are seeing the same 2 or 3 clips from 10/7 and don’t have a sense of the scope of the cruelty of what happened.

It’s hard to not have people to talk to about what I saw.

Then on the other hand, I fucking hate Netanyahu and how he is using this war to do so many harmful things. This hostage deal has been on the table for months and months, and they are bombing the shit out of Gaza. It’s awful how the far right is running this war and how little regard they have for the hostages or the people in Gaza.

I am so relieved to see hostages and prisoners being released now, and very very tenuously hopeful that the ceasefire will grow into a more lasting truce.

Still, it is hard to see the propaganda on both sides. The Israeli media puts out tearful videos of families reuniting and Hamas is putting out these weird pieces where the hostages are thanking their abductors for taking care of them, old women are showering the soldiers with confetti, and Hamas soldiers are putting the returning hostages on a stand in front of anti-Israeli messages to show their strength.

It’s like these 2 sides live in totally different worlds; I cannot imagine that they are able to even have a conversation.

I have no idea if I’ll ever return to Israel. The war has changed it so much for the worse.

It looks like the Bibas family, the family with a little baby and a toddler, are unlikely to be sent back alive and I think that is going to spark a whole new outrage and shut the ceasefire process down.

I was looking for it to post with my last post. Here is the Hamas propaganda video of the latest hostage release.

Thank you for sharing that. I’ve been seeking Jewish voices that have some perspective on this whole situation that is more reasoned.

One of the most enduring images out of Israel was Naama Levy’s capture, with her bloodied sweatpants. She is home now.
