I heard a recent interview with this author on Pod Save the World and thought he was pretty persuasive. I may have to go get his book:
The immediate tragedy is being borne by the Palestinians of course, but one of the other points he was making was that when America makes exceptions for our stated values, deciding that in specific circumstances it’s ok and appropriate for allies like Israel to discriminate and assign different rights to people based on religion or other traits that we would consider protected in our own country, it helps open the door for people like Trump and Musk to come along and say that the U.S. should be a white Christian nation. (He did a better job connecting those dots than my paraphrasing)
Note: Beinart is obviously not perfect. He supported the war in Iraq, but wrote a mea-culpa book about that in 2010. It appears that his thinking has changed for the better in recent years.
Another interview you might find interesting:
Peter Beinart, journalist, commentator, author of the Substack newsletter ‘The Beinart Notebook’, professor at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, and the author of Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza: A Reckoning (Knopf, 2025), talks about his new book on calling for ‘a reckoning’ for the state of Israel.
so much for “temporary”
Mr. “No Refugees in America” demands other countries take in refugees. He also assumes everybody in the Arab world is an interchangeable cog ignoring the uniqueness of Palestinian culture and language, and that not all Palestinians are Muslim. He seems to be cynically angling for some sort of Nobel peace prize but all he’s doing is making things even worse.
In today’s press conference with King Abdullah, he spent more time blaming Biden for October 7 (and for the situation in Ukraine as well, because why not) than any sort of meaningful proposals beyond “we’ll make Gaza great, we’ll make peace in the Middle East, everybody wants this” and other empty nonsense.

MACKLEMORE - fucked up
What’s also fucked up is that you have to sign in to watch it. I’m sure it’s watchable elsewhere.
Presumably that last 24% is “not sure”. These must be the illusive Democratic voters who reflexively vote straight party?
Regardless, pandering to Bebe was a really bad campaign decision, and polls like this might be revealing.
That post seems to be gone now?
