Elon Musk is a Cancer, having been born in late June, so I could easily see him saying that if someone smarter gave him the idea.
The riders are the ones who go thru hell at the Spanish Riding School!
They spend ages on a professor horsie, who is on a longe line (sort of like a V looong lead rope - the horsie goes out as far as the trainer/handler wishes, and goes in circles at various requested speeds around them), and they are in saddles which have no stirrups. “Do not even think stirrups!” they are admonished. It’s a gruelling method, but one which produces superb skill and an “educated leg” to kill for. Most give up and quit.
Trainees w/out real riding experience are preferred, since newbies have no bad habits to be overcome. Correcting them can be V difficult.
After centuries, there are now women riding there!
PBS did a show about them…lemme see if I can find it…Ah! Sort-of success.
The entire episode is not available there, but may be ahem elsewhere.
A fun place to start learning about Lipizzans is a delightful children’s book, White Stallion of Lipizza by Marguerite Henry, she of Misty of Chincoteague fame. While the title character was not a real horse, she did base him on real ones. Ms Henry wrote for children, but never insulted their intelligence, which makes her books enjoyable both to read to smol childrenz and re-read as an adult.
OMG! What an awesome motto!
Whenever this old horsewoman reads that, it does get mighty dusty all of a sudden.
For some reason it’s IMDB page isn’t oneboxing.
“Just”, like you might have thought they were unusual but this shows they’re mundane?
Hoofing it around the world.
