What were they thinking? I mean, you never wear belt loops without a belt.
I assume two smaller belts, but as this does appear to be womenâs fashion, perhaps it is still just one belt.
It has pockets thoughâŚ
Daisey Duke you done put yer britches on upside-down! DANG!!
I hope someone who knows these people and can cherish these photos will be found. Theyâre very good family snaps â someone knew their way around a camera â and seeing them in original colour (Kodachrome?) makes them very immediate.
Lovely photos
I was reminded by an article on Ars about the Martian Rovers, and went to check on Oppyâs status. It turns out, interesting things are currently happening on MarsâŚ
Thatâs one of the truest things Iâve read on SMBC!
The plane is a B-36 Peacemaker, B-36D or one of the later variants. Interesting plane. Fits the mid-50âs timeframe. Someone might recognize the red fin stripe or the diagonal on the nose and know where itâs from. They mightâve stopped at Wake Island due to encountering some problem getting to or from Guam or Japan.
The rationales in the article are compelling, but I find it notable the ânonsenseâ tends to be religious. It correlates with how my (Android) phone assumes Iâm swyping âGodâ instead of âgoodâ all the time â youâd think the latter word would be used more frequently, even among religious people.

A thread for the academics:
I mean, the joke here does write itself.
The response to the old line âreligion is the last refuge of the desperateâ is âyes, yes it is â now imagine how fucking desperate you have to be to find comfort in it.â I donât begrudge anyone religion if that theyâre desperate for comfort.
Evangelism, though, insisting everyone find refuge where you did â thatâs not about religion, but power.
The Google thing seems to come from this notion that knowing the bible somehow makes you âgoodâ, which puts it in the latter category, not the former.
I was in an Anglican service recently. Anglicanism is variably evangelical, but mostly not. The theme was âsubmissionâ. Who finds that to be a comforting, awesome theme?
The Trump years are going to make an obnoxious atheist out of me yet, I swear.
Lots of people, though Iâve never gone in for it myself. The idea that someone else will deal with the tough stuff must appeal.
Which creates a paradox with the old âeven the devil can quote scriptureâŚâ
One of the things that throws a coworker of mine off, about me, is the fact that I can call out a superficially (or hypocritical) Christianâs behaviour or message (especially some of the big names from the states), simply by quoting the Bible and pointing out how that doesnât fit. Itâs jarring to her, not only how well I (the atheist) knows the Bible, but how much I can find concrete, explicable phonomena, to match up with what the Bible says and to explain the discrepancies and possibilities.
I couldnât do that when I was immersed in Evangelicalism. On the other hand, taking a Media and Communications major with courses in the history of communication and oral histories taught me a lot about how to interpret, especially the Old Testament.
The fact that some people can swallow it straight, with zero interpretation or consideration of the lense through which itâs told (let alone what got left on the cutting room floor) explains a lot to me as to why Trump is president.
Robison loudly berated him and left. Woodburn went home and wrote this
anonymous âAdvertisement no 45â about what the word âScarletâ means,
including a lot of swipes at Robison, & claiming it does not mean a
word âbeginning with C and ending in T, such as Claret for exampleâ
lol actual tears over here
Robison received it, was furious, threw it into the fire, realised it was evidence, pulled it out again, took it to confront Woodburn. Asked what it was - Woodburn said he couldnât tell, as âit is burned you see.â
no pls stop
