A collection of more than 200 films from the Lumiere brothers, some of the very first films ever made, way back in the 1890s. Numerous cinema firsts scattered throughout the collection, but what’s most likely to be interesting, to the connoisseur or the layman, is the simple documentation of a long lost (for better and worse) world. With French narration (which I don’t understand, so I just muted it, no idea if it’s worthwhile).

ETA: Hmmmm… Doesn’t seem to want to work. I’ll figure it out later. Or not.

About half done with Jessica Jones season 2. So far, totally enjoying it. I really appreciate that the heart of the show is really the relationship between Jessica and Trish.

My normal Thursday Video Entertainment night was disrupted, so I didn’t finish JJ, yet.

But, yes, I like the relationship dynamic. The Mother surviving as well though was a tad cliche

I’m not sure how to feel about the second installment; while I appreciate the female-centric narrative, the pacing is rather sluggish and many of the interactions seem kinda forced.

And, unfortunately, just like DD2, the lack of a serious ‘Big Bad’ diminishes what made the first season so good.

Logan Lucky.

Like Oceans 11, 'cept not as glitzy.

I was afraid that would be how it plays out

I kinda like how the people making Jessica Jones don’t give a shit what we want.

Lots of shows know what we want. Jessica Jones knows what we need.

(I’ve only seen five episodes. So far, I like it.)

Finished JJ today.

I guess it ended how it had to end.
Definitely room for a season three, but like many Season 2-Episode 2-Book 2 it didn’t have climactic ending.
A good bit of show, but I guess I wanted something more.

Bill Hader hosted Saturday Night Live this last weekend. I never liked The Californians too much, but they did bring Stefon back for Weekend Update, which was cool.
Despite a few lame sketch premises, there were so many times people broke character for laughing because of Bill, you’d think it was the Carol Burnett Show.

After JJ, we watched The Defenders. I know, out of order, whatever. It was OK.

I couldn’t finish Iron Fist, because the douchy asshat grated on my nerves no end. But, my partner wanted a new binge, so I fired it up. It turns out my partner loves him. I know it’s bad to judge someone for the entertainments they enjoy, but the fact that he thinks douchy asshat is great is causing so much eyerolling on my part. Even Colleen Wing wasn’t enough to keep me interested. Sigh.

I swear douchy asshat was brought up in the #MeToo but now I can’t find the article so, maybe I can’t paint him with that brush.

Still couldn’t finish the first episode.

Welcome to the club; I couldn’t force myself to watch the last 3 eps it was so unbelievably bad… so I just read the recaps.

Since when???

What other criteria is there?!?

Has he seen the original Kung Fu, with David Carradine in the Old West?

It’s also problematic for similar reasons but at least it doesn’t suck.

I finished it last night. Despite the slow pace, I thought it improved on Season 1. Kilgrave was a great villain, but one-dimensional — just a sadistic psychopath with no motivation other than sadism. The characters this season were more complex and the story had more nuance. The show was less comic book, more graphic novel.

None of the major characters was completely good or bad; I even felt some sympathy for the lawyer Jeri Hogarth at her most vulnerable, despite her being a basically horrible person. Betrayal was a recurring theme this season.

I enjoyed the Bride of Frankenstein twist in which Frankenstein falls in love with his monster.

What was the purpose of the whole Jeri Hogarth subplot? It really had little effect on the main story except to set up Season 3 at the end.

Season 3 predictions:

Now that Malcolm is working for Evil Detective, his loyalties are divided between Evil Detective and Jessica in a major theme I like to call Malcolm in the middle.

The show travels to exotic locales as the newly empowered Trish, driven as ever, pursues her dream of becoming World Hacky Sack Champion.

Wild Wild Country - it is all the talk in yoga circles - about the cult of Osho/Sri Baghwan Rajaneesh. It is SO good. Sociopaths in action - they are just so charming to watch - until you see the horrible things they did in the name of love.
