Theyâve bought into the mindset that something is always wrong. No matter how much they have or accomplish - something, somewhere, has to be wrong for these folks. Youâre right - they will never be happy. However, their dissatisfaction and focus on finding or fixing whatâs wrong has become a problem for the rest of us. First the media tells them thereâs something terribly wrong in their house, something terrible about their lives, something wrong with how they look / what they do / how they feel / etc⌠Unfortunately, the media went on from there to saying something is wrong in their neighborhood, with their neighbors, their state, their country, and the worldâŚand these folks swallow every lie they are told because it scratches their itch to feel validated and be right about something, somewhere being terribly wrong.
Same here. Even if not in money, IMO thereâs more value in family, friends, good health, and the ability/freedom to find things to enjoy in life. Sadly, for those famous people with the affliction described above, we can see some seem to be incapable of finding real, lasting connection or true joy in anything. We have to fight to protect what we value from those who envy and seek to destroy what they cannot have or understand. They remind me of why the Grinch stole Christmas and how pissed / mystified he was that the Whos in Whoville were singing anyway.

Stuckey: No. 1, clarity. A lot of evangelical leaders and pastors have a tougher job than me in a lot of ways, so Iâm not trying to throw all of them under the bus, but theyâre just not as clear about what the Bible says about gender or what the Bible says about marriage. Does the Bible have anything to say about immigration?
The biggest surge in followers and listeners that I had in a short period of time was in 2020, when everyone was posting the black square. Everyone was saying that George Floyd was killed because of racism. Everyone was saying that white people, especially white evangelicals, had a role to play in George Floydâs death. We all need to sit back and listen and learn, and even in churches we need to be reading âWhite Fragility.â
And I donât like to pat myself on the back at all, because I certainly wasnât alone, but among white evangelical women, I have been one of the only ones to say, âNo, thatâs not biblical. Thatâs not how Iâm talking about it.â Iâm not going to shame white women. Iâm not going to say that they need to sit down and shut up and be lambasted for something that someone who might have looked like them in the same geographical region did 200 years ago or 50 years ago. Thatâs not the biblical definition of justice.
I donât think she understood White Fragility (I have not read the book, but I do understand the basic idea).
I donât think that pastors should get up every Sunday and tell you whatâs going on in the news. I donât think that they are bound to the news cycle. But when the Bible says in the beginning, God created them male and female, in his image, he created them, they shouldnât avoid that. They shouldnât pretend like that doesnât mean what it means. We shouldnât pretend that the Bible doesnât speak so clearly to so many of the so-called culture war issues of our day.
And because they are scared of what they may lose by speaking up because they like to be written about nicely in The New York Times or wherever, theyâre just not willing to say it.

The toxic empathy part is basically saying that empathy can be good or bad, and if youâre empathizing with sinners (trans people get a specific call out), then thatâs bad. You know . . . I am no longer a Christian, but I was raised as one, and I am 100% fucking certain that that is NOT consistent with what Jesus said. Fuck these people, and fuck the NY Times for giving them a platform to spread their bullshit.
And given that their own book say things like âLove your neighbour as yourselfâ and âLet he who is without sin cast the first stoneâ, Iâd say â⌠their Anti-Christian bullshitâ.

This reminds me of the toxic woman profiled here. So they believe that they are the good ones, and they are the only ones deserving of empathy. Everyone else is a sinner, but theyâre âdoing it right,â so all is forgiven when it comes to members of their group.
