[GM Note: My apologies, but it appears I won’t be able to have the turn options ready tonight after all. This week’s deadline will be pushed back to Saturday and I’ll have the options for turn 3 available tomorrow. In the meantime, carry on and be sure to cough into your fancy handkerchief.]

Turn Deadline: Saturday, Mar 03 @ 11pm EST

As the plague situation has grown most dire, it is hoped that Mayor Tidewell’s commitment to procuring medicines from Brittania Prime will yet bear fruit. The very best of Weatherby have the opportunity to rise to the occasion.

Turn 3 Group Mission:

Mayor Tidewell asks the landed and titled classes of Weatherby to contribute to the cause of importing cutting edge medical supplies and personnel from Brittania Prime. Of those elected to Leviathan’s, she asks for a total contribution of 2400£ to the endeavor. If you wish to contribute to the cause for example, you may do so with the order:

 CONTRIBUTE 100

If the threshold is reached, it is almost certain that relief from the plague will be received next season. If the threshold is not reached, relief ships are less likely to arrive in proportion to the shortfall.

Turn-specific events

Meanwhile, one might expect the following:

Turn 3 risks: Fair chance of a decline in health that would likely be moderate. Average chance for any existing condition to either improve or worsen.
Turn 3 rewards: Poor chance to see improvement to an existing holding.

Investment opportunities

Choose only one of the following options as well as how much you wish to invest in that option. Greater investments results in greater economies of scale. A higher relevant stat will further improve outcomes, but to a lesser extent than the size of the investment. For example:

Invest 1 300

Option 1: Invest in municipal projects: The public offerings of Weatherby need repair and improvement.
Purchasing bonds will assist in the construction of orphanages, libraries, sanitariums, and other essential services .

  • Rewards: Good chance for good income improvement, below average income improvement otherwise.
  • Risks: Fair chance of being on the receiving end of a bad deal. BUS > 15 reduces the chance to poor. BUS > 25 reduces the chance to lousy.

Option 2: Move into industry verticals: Additional industries are available to convert raw materials into refined goods: textile mills, canneries, warehouses, smelters, and the like. Specialists and engineers are available for those looking to convert existing holdings into products for local and offworld consumption.

  • Rewards: Above average chance for very good income improvement, average income improvement otherwise.
  • Risks: Fair chance of being on the receiving end of a bad deal. BUS > 20 reduces the chance to poor. BUS > 30 reduces the chance to lousy.

Option 3: Invest in remaining tracts: Although the remaining tracts are not as productive as those that have already been snapped up, they are sold by professional brokers. Sadly, some brokers are more professional than others.

  • Rewards: Outside chance of outstanding income improvement, good income improvement otherwise.
  • Risks: Fair chance of incurring future legal risk.

Attend a Social Gathering

Optional: As the season turns to summer, invitations are sent around for games and pursuits in the out of doors. If you wish to attend an event, for example:

Attend 1

Option 1: Receive an invitation to proper Lagoderm Polo - a sharp and daring game, those that receive invitations represent the social standouts of the current year.

  • Requirements: Rank of 400 or higher at the start of the turn.
  • Relevant stats: MIL
  • Rewards: Average chance to make a star play - improving rank by 10%, otherwise a 5% improvement.
  • Risks: Poor chance that you will be thrown from a lagoderm, resulting in minor injuries.

Option 2: Receive an invitation to a rousing game of Badminton

  • Requirements: Rank of 350 or higher at the start of the turn.
  • Relevant stats: FSH
  • Rewards: Fair chance of making a sporting play - improving rank by 7%, otherwise a 3% improvement.
  • Risks: Average chance that you bean another player selecting this option, resulting in a very minor decrease in health to the other player.

Option 3: Receive an invitation to a spritely game of Croquet

  • Requirements: Rank of 300 or higher at the start of the turn.
  • Relevant stats: EDU
  • Rewards: Poor chance to win the game, resulting in a modest increase in rank (+15)
  • Risks: Average chance to roquet a fellow player, resulting in a small increase in rank for you (+5) and a small reduction in rank for the player that was roqueted (-5).

Place Wagers

Optional: One may choose to wager on this season’s Lagoderm race. Merely select a promising creature from the Sports & Leisure section and also indicate the size of the wager. Example:

Wager Hamdinger 100

Market District

The goods in the market district will be available from turn to turn, although prices may change. One may upgrade or downgrade in any given category from turn to turn as needed.

HIRE

Optional: Specific professionals may become available for hire from turn to turn. As long as they continue to be paid a salary, they will serve you to the best of their abilities. Only a certain number of professionals will be available per turn. Availability is not guaranteed from turn to turn. In the event that more individuals want to hire a specific profession than is available, those of highest RANK will be served first. Example

Hire Barrister

The following individuals are available this turn:

Profession #Available Upkeep Effects
---------- ---------- ------------- --------------------------------
Physician (3) 100£ per turn Improves health by 1-2 ranks per turn
Butler (1) 50£ per turn FSH+2 each turn of employment

Rent:

Optional: One may procure personal quarters within the city at the current market rate. Any change of quarters comes with an additional 25£ fee for moving services. Each improvement represents a move to a better neighborhood with a more impressive address. Example:

Rent Spartan apartment

As more members of Leviathan’s move into upscale districts, doors are opened into even more impressive neighborhoods.

Nature of Quarters Upkeep Effect
-------------------- -------------- ---------------
Spartan apartment 75£ per turn +50 rank
Modest apartment 200£ per turn +75 rank
Proper apartment 400£ per turn +150 rank
Fashionable apartment 700£ per turn +300 rank
Luxurious apartment 1200£ per turn +500 rank

Buy:

Optional: One may purchase various items to enhance ones abilities in various aspects. These items will change from season to season depending on current fashions and availability. Purchases of the same object beyond the first will have no further effect. What on earth would one do with two monocles?

 95£ Copperbound Ledger (BUS+4)
150£ Subscription to the Weatherby Street Journal (BUS+6, EDU+2)
 25£ Penny Dreadful (PER+1, MIL+1)

Although it appears none is needed, a brief reminder to use the Public Ledger to establish your intentions for this season.

Several helpful medicines are still available for purchase:

5£ Dr. Arbuckle's Whipweed Tonic Wine
10£ Ms. Merrimoose's Soothing Syrup
15£ Franklin Gooseberry's Remarkable Colloidal Seryl

Question (and since SPH doesn’t think of Rank in this way, I won’t ask in-character).

Is this calculated from start-of-turn Rank, or end-of-turn Rank? That is, if SPH moves into a Proper apartment, will the 5% be calculated on 410 or 485?

Thanks!

Excellent question. All rank challenges are based on start-of-turn Rank, and as so the bonus would be applied against a rank of 410. Even while pursuing a larger income, one should have an eye on improving one’s own status as one never knows when an opportunity will present itself to one of appropriate station.

To merely hustle one’s possessions into a more fashionable neighborhood or purchase the bijou du jour because it is suddenly convenient? Absurd!

Excellent, thank you.

I feel much better about almost min-maxing Rank at this point, as having the third-highest Rank guarantees me the services of a physician (as well as getting me into the better parties).

How wonderful our mayor has planned a response to the plague that helps all of Weatherby. Her requested support works out to 160 per Leviathan member – well within each of our means.

Of course, it falls to the leading members of Society to set the example and lead the Commonweal,.

It appears the authorities @messana have resolved their curiosity about Colloidal Seryl, as Franklin Gooseberry’s Remarkable Colloidal Seryl has returned to the market place.

Brummell peruses the morning paper from his prism.
-turn the page, please, Qaaxtzl.
-hmm.

-I see that the Mayor is trying to excite our civic conscience to deal with this ague. Ah well, I won’t have it said the Brummells didn’t do their bit. We shall have to make a contribution.

-But I wonder if there’s a way we could do so in a way that allows our contribution to be recognized. Perhaps we could sponsor a new wing at the sanitarium, something of that sort? See what you can arrange.

-and also, I see from the pages of What’s Who, we are getting somewhat left behind in the financial stakes by certain nouveau riche elements who don’t take as much care with society. Our investments have not been as successful as I had hoped. Please take out a subscription to the finest business journal that you can so that we might remedy this.

-Please be sure to confirm my attendance at the Lagoderm Polo. Where else would a old cavalry officer be seen? I fancy I could still show a few of these whippersnappers a few tricks.

-and lastly, it seems that we have been unsuccessful in our forays into the races. Please place another wager - perhaps a little larger this time since we have some losses to make up for.

I perceive that you have made a small error in arithmetic; there are sixteen of us, not fifteen, and therefore, split equitably, the cost to each member of Leviathan’s would be one hundred and fifty pounds, not one sixty.

As you have said, though, it is a token amount, easily affordable for beings of means such as I or yourself or any of our peers, and I daresay that any who contributes less should be looked down upon unfavourably by the rest. Plague is an evil thing, to be opposed by all for the good of all, and I hope it is not immodest to think that, in a kinder world where I had not myself fallen ill, I would not have contributed less.

Cmdr William T. Piker (@fintastic)
Carcinogennifer Honeyvenom (@Donald_Petersen)

Have yet to record their intentions. Please note that 23 hours remain for your intentions to be recorded in the Public Ledger.
